As our first step towards developing Set Up Shop, in 2016 ACLT made a microloan to a local entrepreneur, Eva Perry, of Eva’s Cupcakery. It was a little experiment with large intent. Even as a military veteran and minority woman operating her business in an area of low-income and disinvestment, Eva had been previously unable to access traditional financing. She has now repaid the loan successfully and has grown her business into the coffee shop she dreamed of in Mountain View. We know there are many other entrepreneurs like Eva, unable to access the capital or resources they need to grow. Businesses like Eva's are the building blocks of neighborhood revitalization.
Graduates of the Set Up Shop training program will receive access to lending resources and potential financing through our microloan program. We will also provide access to appropriately sized capital for business owners looking to grow.
